On December 19, Jack Lin, president of 72 Steel, organized the employees of the company to stop their work, brave the severe cold and drive for nearly 5 hours to support the hearing on the eligibility of Chinese-American state Congressman Lester Chang held in Albany, the state capital.

Lester Chang, Republican State Congressman of for the 49th Brooklyn District, was accused by Democrats of not meeting the address requirements for election. The Judiciary Committee of the State House of Representatives hosted the hearing. 19 state representatives attended the hearing, and asked Lester Chang whether he had used the Brooklyn wooden house as his primary residence in the past year, which lasted more than three hours. Mr. Cheng stated that he was only registered to vote in Manhattan but lived in Brooklyn. “I am a native of Brooklyn and swear to be a legal resident of Brooklyn from November 2 last year to November 8 this year, until now”, he repeated.

Over the years, President Jack Lin has been enthusiastic about public welfare, concerned about the rights and interests of Chinese Americans, and actively participated in community and club activities. This time, he organized the employees of the company to support Lester Chang. They set off at 4:00 in the morning, and some started at 3:00 in the morning. Despite the severe cold, they drove for nearly 5 hours to Albany just to speak out the voice of the ethnic Chinese.

Because of historical traditions and ignorance of politics, ethnic Chinese have long been underestimated. But today, many ethnic Chinese represented by President Jack Lin gathered at the hearing which sends a strong signal that the ethnic Chinese are awakening and becoming stronger. The ethnic Chinese also attach great importance to their own rights and dare to express their thoughts.
